A few minor accidents occurred this morning due to the first snowfall of the season in the Reykjavík capital area, Vísir reports.
According to Ómar Smári Ármannsson, assistant police chief in the capital area, traffic is heavy but moving well. He adds that although drivers are usually more careful during the first few days of snow, there are always a few who have not prepared their cars for the winter season.
Strong winds as well as heavy snow are expected around the country this weekend. Snow and storm winds are expected in Northeast Iceland by early evening. Wind gusts of up to 35 m/s are expected in the Southeast, east of Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon.
