The walking trail behind Seljalandsfoss waterfall has been closed over the weekend due to falling rocks. It’s not clear as of yet when exactly it will open again.

According to the Southern-Iceland Police, each rock weighed at least a hundred kilograms (220 pounds). Evidence shows that the rockslide might resume in the near future.

Although the walking trail has been closed, there have been some examples of tourists ignoring the warnings. Luckily there have been no casualties as of yet. Iceland’s Meteorological Office has already investigated the situation at Seljalandsfoss, expecting the walking trail to be opened again.

Ólafur Björnsson, a supervisor at the Meteorological Office, believes that the trail should be relatively safe now. “It looks okay now, there isn’t anything major happening up there, it’s just rocks and pebbles that have gathered into one pile and I just swept it all down.”

Seljalandsfoss is among Iceland’s most iconic waterfalls, located in the country’s South Region. It’s been featured in various Iceland related media, such as Justin Bieber’s music video for the song I’ll Show You.
